- I am a writer of (relatively non-mainstream) science fiction and fantasy, and an alumna (Class of '94) of the Clarion West Writer's Workshop, an intensive six-week program for writers of speculative fiction held every summer in Seattle WA. Attending it was a mind-blowing experience for me, and for many others before and since.
- And in June of 1998 I finished a generally rewarding run through the Creative Writing Program of the University of Washington Extension.
- I have collected several of my short works into
an anthology titled Dreams and Heresies, which is available through Lulu.com as either a paperback or
a downloadable PDF. Click here for more info or to purchase.
(As it's more important to me to have my stuff read by people than to earn whatever pittance I get from Lulu sales, I'll level with you that five of the six pieces are already available on-line--see the list below. However, I'll also tell you that the book is ever so much more pleasant to read from a visual standpoint, as I was personally in charge of the formatting and electronic typesetting. It also has some pretty spiffy cover art of my own creation. So--freedom of choice! What a concept!)
- A story of mine entitled "The Book of Permissions" has been published in New Altars, a speculative fiction theme anthology on religion--past, present, future, and alternative. (This is anything but a doctrinaire book; otherwise, would one of my stories be in it?) Limited supplies of this book are still available through Amazon.com.
- For those who crave more immediate gratification, you can read my work in the electronic literary magazine InterText. These include:
- Or you can read this story of mine in the e-magazine Word Riot:
- I have also written a number of essays, rants, and other random bits of text pertaining to
progressive/feminist/queer politics and culture. Two pieces of which I'm particularly proud comprise
a sort of matched set, separated by several years:
- "My Life As A Lesbian-Identified Bisexual Faghag" (under the name Ellen Terris) in the ground-breaking anthology Bi Any Other Name: Bisexual People Speak Out (originally published in 1991)
- "From Minister to Sex Radical: Further (Mis)Adventures of a Lesbian-Identified Bisexual Faghag", in Blessed Bi Spirit: Bisexual People of Faith (published in 2000)
