So, bearing in mind my note in the last post that I'm now using a brand new home bathroom scale, with resulting calibration issues, here are today's numbers:
- Today's weight: 218.0 lb
- Change since last weigh-in: -2.00 lb
- Cumulative weight loss: 116.0 lb
- Average weekly weight change: -1.9 lb
As long as I was going to be introducing the data glitch of a new measuring instrument that I can't really calibrate to the old one, I decided to introduce another change to my measurement method: weighing myself unclothed. Obviously, not a possibility when I was doing my weigh-ins over at my HMO's wellness center! And that had always bothered me a little, because the clothing I was wearing was obviously introducing another unquantifiable error factor into my weekly measurements, even though I'd try to wear sort of the same type of clothing whenever I went to weigh in. But now, in the privacy of my own bathroom, I can achieve standard conditions across all future weigh-ins. Which brings joy to my science-geeky heart (not to mention my obsessive-compulsive brain).
Having said all that, this probably means that I'm actually still on plateau, since last week's weigh-in was clothed, this week's was unclothed, and two pounds is probably an apt allowance for the difference of the clothing's weight (I'd always take off my shoes, which would have added an additional pound or two). And considering I am just coming off a one-week intensive foodblog for eGullet, I'm again okay with plateauing. I'm betting whatever plateau is going on has as much to do with water retention from excessive sodium intake as with eating really well last week (restaurant food, even really good restaurant food, tends to be much more highly salted than what I would make at hom).
In any case, to have done a culinary high-impact week like I had last week, apparently without my weight actually going up, makes me just as happy as a weight loss in a regular week would have. It still means I'm working my regimen okay, which is the real point of the exercise.
